NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming, based on the work of Richard Bandler & John Grinder, is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feelings, language and behaviour to produce the results they do.
It provides a methodology to model outstanding performances achieved by geniuses and leaders in their field.
NLP is about MAPS.
Neuro is brain. We each have our own unique information filtering system. Everything we see hear taste smell is filtered through this first map.
We then give that information personal meaning and assign language to it creating the second map:
Linguistics or Language Programming.
This is the behaviour that results from the maps (neural pathways) we have made of the world around us. – Sometimes they are wonderful maps that work in our favour and sometimes they are not.
Being able to understand how people represent the world to themselves is incredibly useful for my work.
I use NLP in virtually every session in one form or another.
Where the Neuro Linguisitic Programming MAPS lead to?
These MAPS lead onto one of the main principles of NLP ~ the Map Is Not The Territory, i.e. reality is the territory and the map is just the thoughts and feelings we have about the territory.
Most people have it mixed up thinking their thoughts and feelings are reality (the territory) but that is not the case … the good news is if you change the map you change the way the territory looks to you
Another principle is, everyone has within them all the necessary resources needed to change.
When do I use NLP?
I use NLP as a standalone treatment, as there are some incredibly fast and effective processes, but also as an adjunct for another modality I am such as hypnotherapy to enhance its effectiveness.
